Reef Ranger

Australia’s natural environments continue to suffer from pollution, rising temperatures, and climate change. Conservation is more important than ever, but in this age of evolving technology and dwindling attention spans, we need new methods to get the younger generations invested in the future of our ecosystems. 

Created in partnership with the Queensland Department of Environment and Science (DES), and the Queensland Indigenous Land and Sea Rangers Program (QILSRP), Reef Ranger is a 2D simulation game designed to reach upper-primary-school-aged kids and spark curiosity about one of Australia’s most beautiful and diverse ecosystems – coral reefs. 

Players will collect coral, manage pests, perform photographic surveys, and watch their reef spring back to life in full, vibrant colour.

• An interactive 2D reef overworld with fetch-quest style gameplay
• Gamified versions of real conservational practices, including reef surveillance, coral fragment re-plantation, and crown-of-thorns starfish population management
• Puzzle mini-game to simulate the creation of Reef Stars, a relatively new conservational innovation
• NPC Ranger guides to walk the player through the conservational impacts of their work
